Why it happens
Bile is produced by the liver and gallbladder to help digest fats in the small intestine. When the stomach sits empty for too long, that bile can irritate the stomach lining and get vomited back up, usually as yellow or greenish foam.
The common Indian trigger: one big meal a day
Many Indian households feed their dog a single large meal in the evening, often built around rice and dal, sometimes leftovers from the family meal. That leaves a long overnight gap with an empty stomach — exactly the scenario that produces morning bile vomiting. Splitting the same daily food into two smaller meals, morning and evening, resolves this for most dogs within a few days.
Other common causes
- A sudden change in food, or table scraps and street food scavenged on a walk.
- Eating non-food items — common in dogs that roam or scavenge.
- Motion sickness, especially relevant given how many Indian dogs travel by two-wheeler or auto.
- Underlying liver or pancreas issues if vomiting is frequent or severe.
Simple fixes
- Split meals into two, ideally 10–12 hours apart.
- Offer a small bedtime snack (a spoon of curd or a few pieces of boiled chicken) if the gap to breakfast is still long.
- Introduce any new food gradually over a week rather than switching overnight.
- Herbal support such as chamomile tea, cooled and offered in small amounts, can soothe a mildly irritated stomach.
