In Indian kitchens, horse gram is rarely served completely plain. It often appears in dal, curry, usal, pulao, chaat, tiffin dishes or leftovers. The dog-safe version is always simpler than the human version: cooked properly, low-fat, low-salt and without onion, garlic, chilli or heavy masala.

Why Horse Gram May Be Considered

• Well-cooked horse gram can provide fiber and plant protein in tiny amounts.
• It may be acceptable for some healthy adult dogs as a rare add-on.

1. Soak overnight and cook thoroughly until very soft.
